Description

This is a wonderful suprprise. It can be used to spice up any sandwich or meat.

Ingredients

  • 1 t cloves
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 2 c white sugar
  • 3 c brown sugar
  • 1 pt vinegar
  • 3 medium onions
  • 5 q ground ripe tomatoes
  • 1 t allspice
  • 1 T Salt

Instructions

Peel and grind tomatoes and onions. Combine vinegar, sugars, spices and salt in heavy saucepan; bring to a boil.

Add the tomatoes and onions and simmer over low heat until thick, stirring frequently to prevent sticking. Or cook in a moderate oven (350 F.), stirring occasionally to prevent a crust forming on top.

Ladle hot mixture into hot jars. Seal at once. Makes about 5 pints.

Sealing: use 10 minute hot (boiling) water bath.
